The composer behind Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and a huge chunk of Fast & Furious is now making dance music — and it's not a hobby. Brian Tyler's new project, Are We Dreaming, launches with 'Godlike,' an eight-minute bass-driven cinematic epic on Monstercat in partnership with NCS. He's handling the music, the direction, the editing, and the VFX himself.

When a guy with 100+ films and $20B+ in box office decides to build his own electronic world, the interesting question isn't 'can he' — it's 'what does a scorer bring that a producer doesn't.'

This has been cooking for years

'Godlike' isn't a first draft. Tyler previewed the idea live at Lost Lands back in 2021, in front of roughly 30,000 people, as a set opener. It's grown from that moment into a full release with a sci-fi concept: an ambiguous force from another dimension whose intentions stay unclear. That's a scorer's instinct — start with a story, then write the sound around it.

Why the crossover cuts both ways

Film composers already think in the terms festival production is chasing: theme, motif, dynamics, a payoff that lands on cue. Monstercat positioning this as an audio-visual universe rather than a track is the whole point — Tyler isn't borrowing EDM's tools, he's bringing orchestral scale to them.

  • He owns the whole pipeline. Music and visuals from one hand means no committee watering it down.
  • The scale is native, not bolted on. Eight minutes and a narrative arc is normal for a scorer, ambitious for a single.
  • It's a two-way door. If this lands, expect more scorers eyeing the festival stage — and more producers eyeing the scoring booth.

Crossover projects usually read as a famous name renting some synths. This one reads like somebody who's been building it quietly for five years finally hitting play.
